It’s a cheap joke at the beginning of the pilot episode of Firefly when the crew of Serenity lands explores the market on Persepolis and there’s a sign that says “GOOD DOG.” Of course, then the camera pans and you see a guy grilling meat. But food is food, and since I’m feeling generous this recipe won’t include dog.
“Good Dog” Beef Teriyaki
1 pound of chuck beef sliced into strips
1/4 cup of soy sauce
1 tablespoon of ginger
1/8 cup of brown sugar
1 tablespoon of red pepper flakes
1/8 cup of sake
3 tablespoons of red vinegar
A zip lock plastic bag
A meat tenderizer
Pound the beef chuck flat on both sides and slice into equal size pieces about an inch wide. Combine the all the ingredients in the zip lock bag and mix until even. Let the meat marinate in it for at least half an hour, but longer is better.
Once the meat has marinated, skewer it and put it on a hot grill. A few minutes on each side should be sufficient, but it really depends on how your grill is.
