Yes, schnapps are a kind of sweetened liqueur, in this case I would think any butterscotch flavored alcohol could work as a substitute, but you may have to change the ratio with sugar.

When you say schnapps, do you mean the kind of liqueur or some other kind of alcoholic beverage? I am having a real hard time finding it here in Brazil, do you have any other suggestion that would work? is Disaronno (ouch expensive!) an alternative?

help please? I am trying to make it but I cant find equivalents!

I'm looking forward to do it at home! I've already translated it to portuguese so I can share with my friends here in Brazil. I'm seriously thinking about throwing a Harry Potter Theme Party. Now I just have to think about decoration and activities. lol

[...] For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you were probably bombarded with my inane tweets about my trip to Universal Studios, more specifically, to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. As a kid, my family never went to Disney or any of the other big theme parks, so I didn’t know exactly what was in store for me. But after meeting up with a friend who happened to work at the park, I suddenly had an employee discount available to me and just had to buy some toys. And probably close to a flagon of butter beer.
I'm throwing a harry potter themed halloween party for adults, and so far this is by far my favorite recipe. You say to chill the soda and syrup, isn't butterbeer supposed to be warm? if i wanted to make a steaming mug of butterbeer, what would you suggest? thanks for the great recipe!!

A little trick I learned working at Starbucks and attempting to recreate the 'frappuccino' at home. I figure it's the same for the frozen butterbeer. Thing is, if you mix the ingredients you expect in the blender, it doesn't quite mix at all. It separates or worse, clumps, in the case of the frap. What you get is more like a snowball and less like a drink.

The secret ingredient is that much-hated high fructose corn syrup, which is not something you can make without laboratory equipment. However, it's just regular corn syrup that's been processed in a special way. The point to all this? Play with the frozen butterbeer recipe, adding pure corn syrup (it's important to get 100% pure corn syrup) into the slurry until it pours as necessary. The resulting mixture will be very, very sweet so leave out the simple syrup and sugar. The corn syrup should be your only sweetener.
